MBA o no MBA...

…Esa es la cuestión para muchos, ahora que se acerca el mes de Enero y muchas de las escuelas más reconocidas comienzan algún programa. Pero ¿merece la pena realizar un MBA? ¿En qué casos? ¿A qué precio? ¿Qué cabe esperar después de realizar uno de estos progragramas?

Según una encuesta realizada por el Graduate Management Admission Council en 2004 sobre más de seis mil estudiantes de MBA de 128 escuelas en 16 paises, el 70% de los titulados ocupan puestos de liderazgo en sus respectivas empresas, y el incremento medio de salario en un año era de casi un 25%.

Generalmente, las principales razones aducidas para realizar un Master suelen ser:

• Cambiar de carrera profesional (por ejemplo, desde un puesto técnico o de ventas a uno de finanzas)
• Desbloquear una carrera profesional “atascada”
• Promocionar dentro de la empresa
• Incrementar los conocimientos sobre negocios
• Obtener contactos relevantes

Lamentablemente, sólo un 21% de los resultados eran de fuera de los Estados Unidos, por lo que puede que las conclusiones del estudio no sean representativas de la situación en España o Sudamérica (por centrarnos en el área hispana).

Por otra parte, hay algunos factores a tener en cuenta: El primero es que un MBA tendrá más efectividad si previamente se cuenta con cierta experiencia profesional que permita aprovechar los conocimientos adquiridos y aportar algo en el proceso. ¿Cuanta experiencia? Los expertos citan entre tres y cinco años. El segundo es que, si bien un MBA puede ser un buen “empujón” para sortear los primeros niveles gerenciales, a partir de ahí es el propio rendimiento y el talento el que te permitirán ascender más o, incluso, conservar el puesto.
